Ash Regan calls for common sense public policy
I have already called for the scrapping of the controversial Deposit Return Scheme legislation and implementation, however we must go further and bring a larger broom to the clean up legislation in Scotland.
We have become sidetracked on pet project issues that have real world consequences for businesses and the economy of Scotland. We need some common sense in the room, for example: the government should not be banning advertising of alcohol in distilleries and their shops.
Whisky and gin make up a substantial part of our cultural export sales – the idea tourists wouldn’t be able to see those bottles on shelves in nice advertising is an example of common sense being abandoned.
Under my leadership we’d be taking a closer look and a sharper pencil to plans before launching ahead creating fear, uncertainty and doubt in the public mind.
